Using the language needed to book a hotel room and getting used to hearing phrases likely to be heard in hotels. |
Materials

Role play cards A and B x 2 per pair. |
1 Divide the class into pairs and give A and B role cards, making sure each reads only his/her part of the conversation.
2 After a few minutes preparation, they play their roles, with A starting the conversation.
3 Give out the second role play, this time changing roles.
If the role play is observed and assessed, the cue card could be signed and used as portfolio evidence of competence.
Many of the cues in these role plays are open-ended, e.g. ‘say what sort of room you want’. You may also like to work with examples with more specific cues, e.g. ‘say you want a single room with a bath’.

Materials

A information sheet B information sheet. |
1 Prepare for the activity by highlighting the Russian system for numbering floors.
2 Divide the class into pairs and give each pair a copy of information sheets A and B, making sure each person only sees his/her own version.
3 A starts by asking on which floor they can find the facilities listed in the first part of information sheet A. B replies according to the information on sheet B. A then completes the floor grid from the information given.
4 It is then learner B’s turn to ask for information from A.
The completed grids can be retained as portfolio evidence.
