1 Demonstrate the following conversation with a confident learner or with visual aids.
2 Encourage all your learners to circulate and to introduce themselves to all the other members of the group individually, shaking hands as they say ‘Pleased to meet you’.
This is a good ‘icebreaker’.

Materials

List of sample Greek names. |
1 Prepare a list of Greek names such as the one provided, using names taken from Unit 1 and any other typical Greek names, according to the number and gender of students in the class - making sure that they contain only letters / sounds introduced so far.
2 Highlight all the focused letters.
3 Give everyone a copy of the list and ask them to work in pairs on the pronunciation of all the names.

Preparations

Using the template provided, prepare a set of name badges or stickers using the names from your list. |
1 Check learners’ pronunciation of the names on the list and check that they
understand the rule for dropping the final 
from male Greek names
when addressing the person.
2 Give each learner a name badge / sticker and make sure everyone is confident of pronouncing his/her new name correctly.
3 Demonstrate this short model conversation:
4 Encourage learners to circulate and practise the dialogue with each other until they have spoken to every other member of the group, ticking off the names on their list. They should help their colleagues with pronunciation of their name if necessary.
5 By the end of the activity they should have ticked off all the names on the list, ensuring that they have repeated the dialogue several times and had the opportunity to read and pronounce a variety of names.
This activity can also be used to practise a formal version of the conversation using the form of address referred to in the book or with a mixture of first names and full names to practise the difference between formal and informal forms of address.

1 Give each learner a cue card. Explain that role A involves showing the cue card and giving prompts while role B involves greeting and answering questions taking cues from A’s card.
