Since little new language is introduced in Talk Greek checkpoint 1, the activities are ideal for assessment purposes and / or extension of vocabulary and cultural information.
- Activities 1, 6 and 7 can be used as a model for students to write a short description of themselves and / or someone else, famous or not!
- Activities 2 and 3 can be extended and used in a team game in which teams of four or five have to match prompts and responses written on cards which are placed randomly on a table within a time limit. The first team to finish has to repeat the exchanges for the rest of the class to check.
- Activity 4 can be extended as a listening exercise by making a list of pairs of similar sounding numbers such as 21 and 29, and getting learners to listen to a/nother native speaker saying the numbers and then to identify which number in a given pair they have heard by ticking the correct alternative on a check list.
- Activity 5 could be extended by asking the students whereabouts they go on holiday in Greece or Cyprus, or where they would like to go, thereby adding to the list of Greek and Cypriot place names to read.
- Activity 8 can be adapted by learners to make their own word searches for other members of the class to solve, using different areas of vocabulary e.g. countries, Greek place names, nationalities and other vocabulary from Unit 4.
- A fun activity based on the Greek alphabet and its pronunciation is to get students to try to write their own names in Greek letters, stressing, however, that they should pay attention to the sounds represented in their names rather than the English letters.
